Extra virgin avocado oil is safe and effective for medium-high heat cooking up to 400°F. Cold-Pressed & Unrefined Our California Extra Virgin Avocado Oil is produced as simply and naturally as possible using simple cold-press technology, free of hexane and other chemical solvents that many other oils production processes use. Pressing at low temperatures allows the avocado oil to retain its nutritional content, expressive aromatics, emerald green color and delicious flavor. Enjoy! About the Startup Describe your product in 3 words. Something Distinctly Better How did you come up with the idea for this product? As avid home cooks and vegetable farmers, we wanted to find a healthy, tasty and versatile cooking oil that we could use to make our favorite dishes for friends and family, including our two young children. We began cooking with extra virgin avocado oil, but quickly discovered that it was very hard to find in stores and online- almost all of the avocado oil on the market today is refined and imported from foreign countries. We loved it so much, we decided to focus our efforts on creating our own extra virgin avocado oil using the same avocados sold at the grocery store. In 2015 we found a stellar team and began building one of the first avocado cold-pressing facilities in the United States. In early 2016, coinciding with the California avocado season, we opened our facility and began pressing our California Extra Virgin Avocado Oil. What makes your product special? We are one of the only avocado oil producers in the United States, and we are also one of the only extra virgin avocado oil producers in the world. All of our avocados are grown on the California coast between San Luis Obispo and San Diego Counties and are pressed within days of harvest. Most foreign producers only make refined or RBD oil (refined, bleached & deodorized) avocado oil, which doesn’t require high quality fruit and doesn’t retain any of the avocado’s color, flavor or natural antioxidants. By sourcing fruit locally we are able to keep our product affordable and on par or below the price of other cooking oils on the market. We believe affordability is important – most of us use cooking oil every single day. What has been the best part of your startup experience? The most rewarding part of our experience is creating a product we are all proud of, truly believe in and love using in our own kitchens. Building an oil mill, creating a product and building a brand from scratch has been a journey with so many ups and downs and the experience has created an strong bond within our close knit team.
